Sheila Sciannameo's PledgePage 3Day Chicago 2002

Please Join me on an incredible journey...

Never in my life have I joined something so wonderful as the Avon 3-Day Walk for a Cure for breast cancer. This will be a most difficult and rewarding experience. The walk will be June 14, 15 & 16, 2002. I am definitely looking forward to it.

If you are unfamiliar with this event, it is a 60-mile, three day walk from Kenosha, Wisconsin to Chicago's Lakefront, which raises money for breast cancer awareness and research. As a participant I have pledged to raise at least $1900 for this cause and this is where you can get involved in the fight against breast cancer. I would greatly appreciate your help in attaining my fund-raising goal. The mission of this crusade is to fund access to care and find a cure for breast cancer. I will do the walk but I need your financial help. Your contribution will support this mission through five vital areas of the breast cancer cause: biomedical research, clinical care, financial assistance and support services, educational seminars and advocacy training, and early detection and awareness programs nationwide.

I am walking for many reasons...
For My Family, Your Family, Mothers, Grandmothers, Sisters, Brothers, Aunts, Best Friends, Daughters, and Strangers.
If I can make a difference in the lives of those touched by breast cancer I will.
I will walk for those of us who have suffered by this terrible disease first hand--the survivors & the ones that lost their fight. I walk for those of us who have not had to fight ourselves, but for our loved ones who have. I walk for those who do not yet know if they will be among the numbers.

The numbers are staggering...

1 in 8 women will have Breast Cancer.
Your chance of knowing that person is 100%.
Men are also stricken by this disease at about 1500 per year.
182,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. That’s more than 500 women per day.
A new case of breast cancer is diagnosed every 3 minutes. Every 13 minutes, the disease will claim another life.
Currently 1 million women in the United States have the disease, but don’t know it.
80% of these women won’t have a genetic predisposition for the disease.

This walk is for My Grandmother who Survived breast cancer in the 80's, but then was taken in 2000 by other forms of cancer she could not fight. She died on the last day of summer in the year 2000. As she passed, I was holding her hand and praying if there was anything I could do to help. When I heard about the Avon 3 Day walk I was drawn to it as if this is what I could do to help. I am very determined and will press on through the walk even while I am tired because I know that My Grandmother will be walking with me and her spirit will raise me with Love and I will continue on.

I would encourage you to let me know of your loved ones you would like me to take on this journey as I gladly will. Email me with their names and stories and I will walk proudly for you and for them.

All I ask is a small contribution of a tax-deductible donation and your prayers. I need a total of $1900 to enter the walk, but would like to aim higher with your help. No amount is too small!

Let’s support the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade and save lives. Not twenty years from now, but right now. Someone’s Friend. Someone’s Mother. Someone’s Daughter.

After the walk, my blisters will heal; my achy legs will get better with rest.
After the walk I will go back to my family, my work, and my life as it was before the walk.

No such luxury for those enduring breast cancer.

I would like to thank you in advance for your support and ask that you keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I prepare for this challenge.

Thank You,
Sheila Sciannameo
